Having Trouble With Your Back, Hips Or Pelvis Since Becoming A Mom?
We Help Women Get Their Strength, Confidence and Functionality Back After Kids Using Biomechanics Exercise Techniques.
Why Come See Us?
Back, hip and pelvis issues can be solved with the correct protocol and exercise techniques. There are many people offering a ‘solution’ to these problems, but few have the results and client testimonials to back up their claims. Here at Functional Patterns Atlanta, we work with mothers to get their body back to a functional and robust state.
Firstly, What Causes Chronic Back & Hip Pain After Childbirth?
During pregnancy, your body undergoes incredible changes. For this to occur, you release large quantities of relaxin, oestrogen and progesterone hormones to assist with joint relaxation and the musculoskeletal changes that occur during pregnancy.
Once you have given birth, the levels of these hormones drop back down to help the joints return to how they were before pregnancy. This dramatic change can cause localised, acute pain. This means that the pain should go away on its own once everything returns to normal.
However, this is rarely the case. Why? While your joints are more relaxed and mobile during pregnancy, and you are carrying excess weight that is unevenly distributed, you are prone to develop poor biomechanical patterns or habits that solidify post-pregnancy.
This, along with the physical trauma that comes with birthing a human into the world, causes long-term (chronic) pain in areas such as your back and hips.
-
The vast majority of women who experience postpartum back pain develop the symptoms due to pregnancy-related changes in the musculoskeletal system that persist after delivery.
-
Sometimes, but many times it sticks around until it is addressed. Chronic pain after pregnancy often comes from postural and biomechanical dysfunctions and imbalances. Therefore, these need to be corrected for pain to subside.
-
By addressing the biomechanical and postural issues caused by the pregnancy and even poor movement patterns that you had before getting pregnant. These can all be fixed, or at least vastly improved, by using Functional Patterns techniques with one of our specialists.
-
Every year, nearly 400,000 women in the U.S. undergo surgery for urinary incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse. Pelvic dysfunction after childbirth may be common, but it is by no means normal. The muscles and structure of the pelvis are greatly affected by both pregnancy and childbirth, resulting in structural imbalances and general weakness. You may have heard that pelvic floor exercises during and after pregnancy can be helpful. We take a more holistic approach; ensuring that the body is well balanced, that movements are functional and that posture is correct and aligned. We find that focusing on these factors as a WHOLE is crucial to long-term success when addressing pelvic dysfunction.

urinary issues, such as the urge to urinate or painful urination.
constipation or bowel strains.
lower back pain.
pain in the pelvic region, genitals, or rectum.
discomfort during sexual intercourse for women.
pressure in the pelvic region or rectum.
muscle spasms in the pelvis.
What Women Are Saying
“I'm so grateful that I found functional patterns to help me with pelvic floor discomfort that I've had for 4 years after having my daughter. Jacob and Michael have been very professional and thorough in teaching my body the correct way to move to eliminate my pelvic floor dysfunction. The exercises help open up all of the tight areas and strengthen the weak areas of my body. I feel so much stronger and happier!”

We Specialise In Helping Women & New Moms With:
Back & Hip Pain.
While back and hip pain are common after childbirth, you should not be putting up with them while raising your baby. Chronic back and hip pain post-pregnancy stem from muscular and structural imbalances that are either exacerbated or caused by the extreme changes that occur throughout pregnancy. Many of these dysfunctions will be a result of years and years of poor movement patterns. You need to address your underlying biomechanics and your posture in order to see lasting improvement. Luckily, that is what we do best!

Weakness & Fatigue.
Your body has been through a lot and requires special attention. Weakness and fatigue are common when raising babies and children, but many women don’t realise that much of their exhaustion stems from systemic inflammation and chronic postural and movement related dysfunctions. While everyone suffers with these factors, mothers are especially prone due to the major changes that their bodies have undergone, along with constantly carrying poorly distributed weight. While these factors are not easy to correct, we are here to help you succeed.
Don’t Put It Off, Do It For You.
Moms can get in the habit of always putting other first, but being the most functional and healthy version of yourself is extremely important for you, and for the people you love. How Does Functional Patterns Atlanta Fix Chronic Pain & Weakness Following Pregnancy?
An Unparalleled Analysis.
Functional Patterns Practitioners are able to find issues in the body that no-one else can. We do so by assessing your mechanics WHILE you're moving at your maximum pace. This takes away all 'purposeful' movement and shows us how you move when nobody is looking. Only then are we able to string together your bodies storyline of dysfunction - the true root of your pain.
Biomechanics & Postural Training.
The fact is, the way you move on a daily basis adds up. Continually walking, exercising, running, breathing and moving even just slightly wrong leads to massive issues as time passes. Functional Patterns works by swapping out dysfunctional movement patterns with functional ones. Not only does this stop pain but it also makes fat-loss and muscle gain far easier as your body begins to function efficiently!
Holistic, Root-Cause Methodology.
Functional Patterns addresses you as a whole individual. We like to think of your health needs as pebbles that require delicate stacking. If one is slightly out, your tower will be structurally unsound and keep toppling over. We help you to carefully stack your movements (the structure of your tower), your mentality around health, your diet, your rehabilitation and much more. This is what produces such outstanding results in our practice.
What Women Are Saying.
“I manage a Holistic practice in Midtown and am on my feet running around every day without getting a break. My knees and entire back were constantly aching and I knew I needed a change and traditional training wasn’t the way to go. I’ve been training with Michael for several months now and I’ve noticed significant changes in my body. My back & knees no longer ache, I have more energy, and I feel more confident in myself- my posture is improving (hence why there’s a boost in confidence :) ) I feel so grateful to have the opportunity to train with FP practitioners. Life changers”
